Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
